The Ken and Betwa rivers, which have lately made headlines, are tributaries of the Yamuna.

The Union Cabinet has approved the financing and implementation of the Ken-Betwa river connectivity initiative. The project calls for water to be transferred from the Ken to the Betwa rivers, which are both tributaries of the Yamuna. The project would take eight years to finish. National Perspective Plan for is the only project river interconnection. The Ken-Betwa Link Canal will be 221 kilometers long, such as a 2-kilometer tunnel in the middle.

The notion of connecting Ken and Betwa received a big boost in August 2005, when the Centre and the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh signed a tripartite agreement of understanding for the creation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Centre designated KBLP as a National Project in 2008. It was then incorporated into the Prime Minister's strategy for the implementation of the drought-prone Bundelkhand area. In 2021, the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the group of states inked a memorandum of understanding for the project's execution.
