The Rajya Sabha has supported the Dam Safety Bill, 2019. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, stated that the Bill was not designed to infringe on the states' rights to their waterways, dam management or maintenance, or even commodities such as power.

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is a Rajasthan-born Indian politician who presently serves as a Union Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Jal Shakti. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who represents Jodhpur in the Lok Sabha. He was born into a Rajput family in Mahroli Village, Shrimadhopur Tehsil, Sikar District, Rajasthan, India.
