The next director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre is Unnikrishnan Nair S. (VSSC). He was previously the head of the ISRO Human Space Flight Centre. He replaces S Somanath, who was recently appointed chairman of ISRO.

The Human Space Flight Centre is now led by Unnikrishnan Nair. He will continue to face this accusation as well. Unnikrishnan Nair, a native of Kothanalloor, Kottayam, holds a B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) from Kerala University. He also holds an M.E (Aerospace Engineering) from IISc, Bangalore, and a Ph.D. from IIT Madras, Chennai. He joined VSSC in 1985 and has held several significant posts, including first project director of the Human Space Flight Project, deputy director of VSSC (Structures), and program director of the Advanced Space Transportation System.
He was a member-secretary of two IAA study committees and led the trip to Russia for India-Russia space collaboration in the human space flight program, which culminated in the signing of crucial contracts. He has received several honors and prizes, such as the ISRO Excellence Awards.
