The African Union Summit 2022 has just begun in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the AU Centers. The meeting took place in the middle of several militarycoups and the continent's coronavirus outbreak. 6 coups or tried coups in the last 18 months, as well as poor immunization rates, will be addressed during the two-day summit. The 55-member AU is also under pressure to urge for a truce in Ethiopia, where a 15-month war has slain hundreds and malnourished many more.

The AU's Peace and Security Council has suspended four member states since mid-2021 due to illegitimate changes in government, most notably Burkina Faso, where troops deposed President Roch Marc Christian Kabore last month.
