Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ), the nation's earliest exporting zone, has become India's 'first green industrial city,' receiving a platinum certification under the IGBC Green Cities Rating for city centers in the area of the industrial town.
Initiatives that assisted Kasez in achieving this Status
- Green Coverage: In comparison to the 25,000 trees in KASEZ in 2019, the 1000-odd acres have 3.5 lakh trees. The majority of these trees were planted after 2019 utilizing the Miyawaki forestation technique.
- Bird and tree species: On a patch of property that was formerly a salt pan with practically little flora, KASEZ managed to develop 68 types of trees and attract 28 sorts of birds, which were also inspected and numbered.
- Salt Pan Expansion Stopped: The SEZ hindered the development of salt pan beyond Kandla. The planting of trees aided in the reduction of salt and the improvement of topsoil quality. The water became a little salty improving the trees' growth. Water collection technologies were also utilized.

- Productive use of waste: KASEZ, a hub of the used clothes recycling business, uses old clothing formatting during tree planting.
- Use of Plastic Waste: KASEZ used plastic garbage to line the artificial water bodies built inside the region to avoid water seepage and mixing with the salty water.
- Energy Conservation: The SEZ's solar energy and LED lighting projects were also among the elements that led to the IGBC certification.
