Indian Penal Code 1860 defines offenses that are punishing in nature. Section 294 of IPC prohibits the person to use the obscene act in the public.
What is the difference between Section 294 and Section 504 of the IPC?

Overview

Section 294 of IPC talks about the offence of obscene act and prohibits the person from doing anything which has the nature of illegal and unsuitable songs, words, writing, or any other means of the utterance of the act is comes under the same act.
On the other hand, section 504 of the Indian Penal Code defines the act that has been done to disturb the peace of the public place.
The difference between both the sections is the purpose of the section as it has the intention of breaching public peace and other talks about the obscene act. Here it would be clearer while we will understand the section more clearly.

Section 294 of IPC

The section can be read as any person doing an act which comes under the words of obscene acts and songs and the act has been committed in order annoyance of others.
Says does any Obscene act in any public place, or
The act involves any sung, recite, or utter any song, ballad, or word, in or near any public place, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both.

Section 504 of IPC

The section has the words as an intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
Whoever intentionally insults, and thereby gives provocation to any person, intending or knowing to be likely that such provocation will cause him to break the public peace, or to commit any other offence, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
