Steps to fix it:

Why do my Skype calls keep dropping?

  • The quality of your internet connection is the most prevalent cause of call drops. Your Skype connection is likely to suffer if your Wi-Fi is poor, you're sitting far from the router, or someone in your network is streaming Netflix or another bandwidth-hogging app.
  • Restart your router to refresh your internet connection and solve your problem. If possible, use an Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi because it is more stable. If connecting through Ethernet is not possible since the router is in another room, try to get as close to it as possible.
  • To see if it's having problems, go to the Skype Heartbeat page to see how it's doing. You may get to Skype Heartbeat directly from this page. You may also get to this page by going to Help & Feedback> Skype Status in the app.
  • An outdated app is another reason why your calls stop after a few seconds. Make sure you have the most recent version of Skype installed on your computer, as Microsoft does not support or resolve faults in previous versions of the app.
