 ‘The Dramatic Decade: The Indira Gandhi Years’ was written by the ex-President of India “Pranab Mukherjee. The book was published under ‘Rupa Publications India’ and was released in 2015.

The book is based over the most highlighted period of Indian History and the most fascinating period of India- the decade of the 1970s. The phase was when the whole of India found the true meaning of ‘Democracy’. In that decade India extended her full support to East Pakistan’s struggle for Independence. Then another incident catches the limelight in the same decade was of ‘Emergency. Which absorbed the people’s freedom of personal expression. This decade has been the turning point in the history of the Indian Legislature.
In the same decade, Pranab Mukherjee started his political career, and his speech impressed Indira Gandhi and helped him to earn a place in the Congress Party. In the book, he narrated his personal experiences and the conversations in the 1970s decade which portrait an exceptional image of a Complex Nation. The book also provided an overview of modern history from the perspective of India’s most important statesman.
The writer of the book and the ex-President of India, Pranab Mukherjee was born in a poor Brahmin family in a village Mirati in the year 1935, which is in Birbhum District of West Bengal. His father was a schoolmaster and an active freedom fighter. He was a bright kid, yet always tried to bunk his classes. From a bright student, he eventually rose to the highest ranks of Indian politics. As well as, he served many other reputed designations and departments like Minister of Finance, Commerce, External Affairs and Defence Minister during the Congress led government. He is a highly educated individual and trained in History, Political Science, and Law.
