Oscar award winning music composer A R Rahman was appointed as the brand ambassador of the Indian State Sikkim by the Government of Sikkim on Monday 8th January 2018.
Pawan Chamling the Chief Minister of Sikkim honoured A R Rahman at Gangtok on the onset of ‘The Red Panda Winter Carnival 2018’. State tourism minister Ugen T Gyatso expressed happiness to have A R Rahman as the brand ambassador of the state.
A R Rahman was born on 6th January 1967 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India as A S Dileep Kumar. Allahrakha Rahman (A R Rahman) is a songwriter, music composer and music director. A R Rahman was awarded the Oscar (Academy Award) for his music in the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Other awards of A R Rahman include six National Film Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, fifteen Filmfare Awards and seventeen Filmfare Awards South. A R Rahman also received a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award. A R Rahman was honoured with the Padma Bhushan (third highest civilian award of the Republic of India) in the year 2010. In the southern part of the country, A R Rahman is known by the nickname ‘The Mozart of Madras’ and ‘Isai Puyal’ (meaning the Musical Storm in English). A R Rahman’s first work as music composer and director was in the Tamil film Roja.
