The Indian Army Day was celebrated every year to honor Lieutenant General Kondandera Madappa Cariappa taken the charge as democratic India’s first Commander-in-Chief from General Sir Francis Butcher. General Francis was the last British Commander-in-Chief of India. Since then, the day is celebrated every year with military shows and parades in Delhi and in all headquarters.
The day is especially celebrated to give honor and salute to all the veteran soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country. The parade in Delhi is organized at India Gate near Amar Jawan Jyoti.
The History behind the celebration of the January 15 as the Indian Army Day is, after Independence and the declaration of the partition of the country as India and Pakistan. It arises a huge dispute, communal riots, murder, and many other heinous crimes with migrators. As well as, those people who don’t want to leave their homes and belongs to other religion. The days were very tough for every citizen and for the Britishers too. The British Army didn’t understand how to handle the situation, so they just try to flee from India and hand over the command of the Indian Army to General Cariappa. Like this, he became the first General of Independent India Army.
He managed the whole army and maintained the environment of peace in India and Pakistan as well. So, to mark the day and give the gratitude the day he was handed with the responsibilities is celebrated as the Indian Army Day. As well as, the handover of authority to India from the British is also a great opportunity and a very remarkable moment for the country. Hence, the transfer of power of the army to India on January 15, and the day is marked as Army Day in the Country.
