One challenge is the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, which is causing the planet to warm. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions will require a shift to clean energy sources, such as solar and wind power, and [improvements in energy efficiency](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/302476/green-technology-innovations-for-sustainable-development). Another challenge is the need to adapt to the impacts of climate change that are already happening. The agreement was adopted by 195 countries at COP 21 in Paris, on December 12, 2015 and entered into force on November 4, 2016. - The Green Climate Fund: The Green Climate Fund is a global fund that supports developing countries in their efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. The fund was established at COP 16 in Cancun, Mexico, in 2010. - The Clean Development Mechanism: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a flexible mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol that allows industrialized countries to earn credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries. The CDM was established in 2000. These are just a few of the many initiatives underway to address climate change. While there is still much work to be done, the progress that has been made so far is encouraging.
