# Why can't the Euro currency replace the US dollar as the world currency?

It's no secret that the US dollar is the world's reserve [**currency**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/98005/what-is-constant-currency). That means that when other countries want to buy things from the US, they have to first buy dollars. This gives the US a lot of power in the global economy.

But there's been a lot of talk lately about the euro currency potentially taking over the dollar as the world's reserve currency. After all, the euro is used by a lot of countries, and it's a strong currency. The euro is the currency of 19 countries in the [**European Union**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/98461/should-the-european-union-federalise). It's also used by a handful of other countries, including Montenegro, Kosovo, and Andorra. The euro has a lot going for it. It's a stable currency, and it's accepted around the world.

The dollar is used in more than twice as many transactions as the euro. That's because the United States has the world's largest economy.

**2. The euro is not as widely accepted as the dollar.**

While the euro is accepted in many places, there are still some businesses and countries that don't take it. This makes it less convenient for travelers.

**3. The United States has a strong military.**

The [**United States**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) has the world's strongest military. This gives the dollar a lot of support.

**4. The United States has a stable government.**

The United States has a strong economy and a stable government. As a result, the dollar is a secure investment.

**5. The United States is a key player in the global economy.**

The United States is a major player in the global economy. This gives the dollar a lot of influence. If the US decided to stop using the dollar as the world currency, it could seriously disrupt the global economy.

**6. The United States dollar is simply more trusted than the euro.**

The euro has only been around for a little over a decade, whereas the dollar has been around for over two centuries. This gives the dollar a much longer track record and thus, a much higher level of trust.

So, while the euro has a lot going for it, the dollar is still the king of currencies.
