The[**Allahabad High Court**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allahabad_High_Court) is the High Court of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located at *Allahabad*, the state capital of [*Uttar Pradesh*](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/93065/what-is-new-rules-of-lockdown-4-in-uttar-pradesh). The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad was established on **17th March 1866.** At present it has two benches (Allahabad and Lucknow) which deal with civil and criminal matters in Allahabad district, [*Mirzapur*](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/325386/tandava-a-new-web-series-of-amazon-prime-video) district and *Azamgarh* district. The other two benches are in Lucknow and *Raebareli* districts respectively. Allahabad High Court covers an area of **1061 km²** and has a population of **3.2** million people.

The city of Allahabad has been a major judicial centre since the days of ancient India, and has served as the capital of the region since **1722**. It has jurisdiction over all courts located within the state, except for High Courts located in Lucknow, Allahabad and Kanpur. The High Court also has appellate jurisdiction over all cases from the Supreme Court of India and the top **12** states' high courts, as well as all cases involving litigation between two or more states or territories.

The Allahabad High Court is the highest judicial court in Uttar Pradesh. It is a *superior court* of record and has appellate jurisdiction over the entire state as well as over the Union Territories of Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura. The Allahabad High Court is not just a High Court but also has inherent powers to exercise its jurisdiction in matters of extraordinary importance or urgency. The high court also has exclusive original jurisdiction to try disputes relating to any aspect of the administration of law relating to any subject matter listed in *Article 226 or 227 of the Constitution.* It also has original jurisdiction to try cases related to law and order for all states except for [Kerala](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/39682/name-the-veteran-playback-singer-who-has-been-awarded-the-harivarasanam-award-2017-by-the-kerala-government) and Mizoram which have their own High Courts.
