Lions and tigers are two of the most iconic and majestic creatures in the animal kingdom. As members of the same family, they share many characteristics, but they also have some distinct differences. One of the most impressive differences in their natural habitats. ## But what is their natural habitat? Where do these majestic animals call home? Lions are found in both savannas and grasslands across the African continent, from Ethiopia to South Africa and from [**Morocco**](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/44103/5-things-you-must-know-before-visiting-morocco-travel) to Tanzania. They usually live in groups of three to four adult females, with a single male in charge. This male lion is responsible for defending his pride against other males, and for bringing home food. The African lion is the most social of the big cats, living in groups called pride. The typical pride consists of 10–20 lions, and the females are mainly responsible for hunting. Lions have adapted to live in the savanna and grasslands where they hunt large animals such as antelope, zebra, and buffalo. Tigers, on the other hand, inhabit a much larger range of habitats. They can be found in tropical rainforests, grasslands, and deciduous forests throughout the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and [**China**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/98720/how-china-is-using-pakistan-as-tool-against-india). They tend to live alone, and females have smaller territories than males. Tigers mainly hunt smaller animals, such as deer, wild pigs, and fish. They also enjoy swimming and are excellent climbers. Because of their large size, both animals also need a lot of open space, especially for running and hunting. Lions usually stay close to water sources such as rivers and lakes, while tigers are more likely to stay near the edges of forests.
