# How CCTV work without internet?

How CCTV work without [internet](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/44099/best-internet-hobby)?

## Answers

### Answer by Hitesh Vohra

- **Yes, they certainly can! CCTV cameras** can be operated without the use of the internet, and they can even function without the need of electricity.
- Only when the footage needs to be accessed remotely does an internet connection become necessary. Although the internet has its advantages, it is by no means a requirement.
- Indeed, some people choose not to link their CCTV systems to the internet because it exposes them to cyber-attacks and hacking. Potential criminals can obtain control of the systems by hacking them. They do this to get access to a property and disable them.
- However, there are simple solutions to prevent unauthorised access and misuse, so this shouldn't be a deal-breaker. It's simply a matter of exercising caution and following best practises.
- While all of the capabilities that come with an internet-connected CCTV system are unquestionably valuable, there are some places where they are not practical to utilise, such as farms and off-the-grid residences where internet and electricity are scarce.
- The ability to utilise a CCTV camera in areas where there is no internet or electricity allows anyone, whether in rural or metropolitan settings, to defend their property.
