This is accomplished in five simple steps:

- Set the lens's physical focus to infinity (clockwise from the front).\
- Aim the camera at the desired subject.
- Release the back focus mechanism on the camera.
- To get the best picture possible, adjust the back focus.
- Secure the back focus mechanism of the camera.

The 'focal flange length' is referred to as 'back focus.' This is the distance between the CCD and the back lens element.
