How many countries use digital currency?

## Answers

### Answer by Hitesh Vohra

- A central bank digital currency has been completely implemented in **nine nations (CBDC)**. The Caribbean is home to eight of the nine countries. Nigeria, with its e-Naira, is the most recent country to establish a CBDC. It is the first CBDC to be established in Africa.
- India's finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, said in February 2022 that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will implement a digital rupee sometime during the fiscal year 2022-2023, which begins April 1, 2022.
- In October 2017, the Bank of Russia revealed plans to establish a digital ruble. CBDC, according to Russia's central bank, would lower the cost of payment services, encourage competition among financial institutions, provide a convenient method of payment to individuals in areas with limited access to financial infrastructure, and lessen the country's reliance on the US dollar.
- Brazil has been considering a CDBC since at least 2020, following the successful implementation of PIX, the Brazilian Central Bank's immediate payment system (BCB). There have been 7 billion transactions conducted, with PIX users accounting for more over 60% of the adult population.
