- **Hotmail** was founded in 1996 by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith and acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated $400 million. It was renamed MSN Hotmail and eventually rebranded to [**Windows**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/95070/how-can-i-install-windows-11-on-a-fresh-pc-without-an-os) Live Hotmail as part of the Windows Live suite of products.
- A Microsoft account is a free account that allows you to access a variety of Microsoft devices and services, including Outlook.com (formerly known as hotmail.com, msn.com, and live.com), Office Online programmes, Skype, OneDrive, Xbox Live, Bing, Windows, and the Microsoft Store.
