- **USB (Universal Serial Bus)** 2.0 Ports: Each motherboard often has a couple of these ports for connecting pen drives and external hard drives, such as Ipods or MP3 players.
- USB allows communication between computer mainboard components and host devices.
- USB 1: speed ranges from 1.5 to 12 Mbps
- USB 2: 480 Mbps 'High Speed' rate
- USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 have raw data transmission rates of 5 Gbit/s and 10 Gbps, respectively.
- Because its transfer rates are faster than the PS/2 connector, current computers lack a PS/2 port. USB ports are available in a wide range of designs and sizes.
