It keeps track of how many seconds have passed since the epoch and utilises that information to determine the current date and time.
- The following are some of the system clock's characteristics:
- A system clock is used to generate a certain pulse at a predetermined pace.
- A system's machine cycle can be completed in one or more clock pulses.
- A single software instruction for the CPU could be many instructions.
- The instruction set of any central processing unit is a preset set of instructions. These are the commands it can process and comprehend.
