- Even when data is held and exchanged internally within a single firm, it might be vulnerable. [**Network**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/97010/define-ieee-in-the-networking-world) encryption is a type of security that is applied to a company's network in order to safeguard and regulate data within the company.
- **Encrypting data** while it is transferred from one node to another and decrypting it when it arrives at another is known as network layer encryption. When done correctly, this method contributes to the 'defence in depth' approach to security by providing a crucial layer of data encryption at the network layer.
- The network layer of the open systems interface (OSI) concept is where network encryption takes place. When a data packet is transferred from one node to another at the network layer, it is encrypted using one or more algorithms. It is subsequently decrypted when it reaches its destination node.
