- The term **'netiquette'** refers to the importance of online etiquette and behaviour. Being respectful and precise, as well as avoiding cyber-bullying, are common standards. Users should also follow copyright rules and refrain from overusing emoticons, according to netiquette.
- Network etiquette, also known as Internet etiquette, is referred to as netiquette.
- This term appeared in the satirical 'Dear Emily' news articles for the first time in 1983, yet it predates the World Wide Web. Commercial usage of public posting was not common at the time, and educational and research institutions dominated internet traffic with text-based emails, Gopher, Telnet, and FTP.
