- **Ethernet** is a communication technology that is mostly used to establish local area networks. It uses cables to send and receive data.
- Ethernet is a communication protocol that links computers in a 'local area network (LAN)' and a 'wide area [**network**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/96979/what-is-a-network) (WAN).' Within houses, buildings, and even small neighbourhoods, LAN and WAN connect numerous devices, such as laptops and printers.
- The name 'Ethernet' is commonly associated with the physical connection between a computer and a router. Because your laptop typically has an Ethernet port, you can put one end of a cable into it and attach the other to a router. However, the term refers to the communication standard itself, as previously stated.
