- A **serial port,** also known as a communication port, is used to connect external devices such as a modem, mouse, or keyboard to a computer (basically in older PCs).
- Scanners and printers are often connected via **parallel connections.**
- In the majority of computer systems, there are at least two **USB ports.**
- **PS/2 ports** are special connections for connecting ancient keyboards and mice to computers.
- **VGA ports,** also known as Video Graphic Array connectors, link the monitor to the video card on a computer.
- Microphones and speakers are connected to the computer's sound card through **sockets.**
- Apple created the IEEE 1394 interface in the late 1980s and early 1990s as **FireWire.**
- A port for sending and receiving infrared signals from other devices is known as an **IR port.**
- Previously, these ports were used to connect a joystick to a computer. However, USB ports have taken their place.
- A **Modem port** connects a PC's modem to the telephone network, as the name implies.
- The **Ethernet port** allows you to connect to a network and the Internet at high speeds (provided by LAN or other sources)
- The **DVI port** is widely utilised by video card makers to link LCD (flat panel) monitors to high-end visual graphic cards in computers.
