- The MDB **file extension** indicates that the file is a [**Microsoft**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/96657/how-is-microsoft-s-paint-3d-better-than-microsoft-paint) Access Database file, which stands for Microsoft Database. This is the default database file format in MS Access 2003 and older versions, while the ACCDB format is used in recent versions of Access.
- The default Access file format is accdb. A lot of newer capabilities, including as computed fields and attachments, are supported via the. accdb file format.
- The six file extensions in MS Access are as follows:
- Access workgroup.mdw
- Access database.accdb
- Access Workgroup.mdw
- Access blank project template.adn
- Access project.adp
- Access database with restricted access.accde
