- **Telegram** is owned by Pavel Durov and his brother Nikolai, the same two people that launched the company in Russia in 2013. Pavel is also the CEO of the company. Pavel Durov has been branded Russia's Mark Zuckerberg since he launched VK, the country's most popular social networking site.
- He is worth $3.4 billion, according to Forbes, and currently resides in Dubai after refusing to cooperate with Russian secret services and release encrypted data of Vkontakte users.
- He obtained citizenship in Saint Kitts and Nevis after leaving Russia by paying $250,000 to the country's Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation and securing US$300 million in cash in Swiss banks, allowing him to create Telegram.
