# Why doesn't Microsoft Word open? How do you fix it?

## Steps to fix it:

- Click the Word shortcut on your desktop while holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard.
- A window will appear asking if you wish to open Word in [**safe**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/95792/is-auto-blogging-safe-for-adsense-approved-blogs) mode. To proceed, select Yes. At the top of your screen, click the File menu.
- From your screen's left sidebar, select Options. It ought to be near the bottom of the priority list.
- On the following screen, in the left sidebar, select Add-ins.
- On the right-hand side pane, locate the Manage dropdown menu and click Go next to it.
- Click OK after unticking all of the add-ins on your screen.
- If you start Word in normal mode, it should open.\ \
