- [**Mac**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/95827/how-do-i-upgrade-the-mac-os-catalina-os-x-10-15) users who have converted from Windows may be asking what the Mac counterpart of the refresh button is. It's also possible that you've always been a Mac user and are wondering how to refresh your browser on a Mac. In most Windows web browsers, the F5 key is used to refresh the page.
- On **Windows systems, pressing F5 t**o refresh a web browser, website, or webpage is a well-known shortcut; however, pressing F5 on a Mac produces a different outcome.
- On Mac platforms, instead of hitting F5, you'll want to use **Command+R (or cmd+r)** to do a refresh. Of course, the majority of Mac web browsers are the same.
- You'll need to change the typical Command+R input to do a hard refresh, but the key combination may alter depending on the browser you're using.
- Press Command+Option+R in Safari and Opera.
- Shift+Command+R in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge
- You can also do a hard refresh by holding down the Shift key while pressing your browser's refresh button.
