When you use [**Safari**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/95490/how-do-you-stream-safari-to-apple-tv) on your Mac, the default setting for web downloads is for them to open automatically. This can be a bothersome feature, especially if your workflow involves downloading stuff from the internet on a frequent basis.

## Steps to disable your Mac from automatically opening downloads from the web:

- **Click Safari** in the menu bar to open it.
- Select Preferences...
- Make sure the General tab is selected at the top.
- After downloading, uncheck the box next to **Open 'safe' file.**
