- Built on JetBrains' IntelliJ IDEA software and designed specifically for [Android](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/1672/android-internals) development, **Android Studio** is the official integrated development environment (IDE) for Google's Android operating system. In 2020, it will be available for download on Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, as well as as a subscription-based service. It takes the position of the Eclipse Android Development Tools (E-ADT) as the primary IDE for developing native Android apps.
