The most common cause of a **'Microsoft Word** is not responding' warning is one of the following: 1. A server timeout causes an inability to open, save, or access a document housed on a **remote server.** 2. A **corrupted program file** 3. An add-on that isn't compatible. Sometimes all it takes is a simple restart of the computer to solve the problem. **Disabling add-ins** and maybe fixing the software are the best options if this strategy fails to cure the problem. 4**. Open Word** in Safe Mode. By loading the software without any templates or add-ins, you may see if it functions properly or if it is corrupted. 5. **Add-ons** should be turned off. If 'Word not responding' isn't an error in **Safe Mode**, and the incompatible add-in is the most likely culprit. 6. To open **Word Options**, go to **File** > **Options** > **Add-ins.** 7. To access the **COM Add**-ins dialogue box, select the Go button under Manage near the bottom of the **window.** 8. To disable all add-ins, clear the **checkboxes** next to each one. 9. To apply the changes and close the **dialogue box**, select OK. 10 If the '**Word not responding**' error notice disappears, try enabling each add-in one at a time and **restarting Word** after each one to see which one caused the problem. 11. The document should be repaired. If the issue occurs when you open or saves a certain **Word documen**t, it is possible that the document is corrupted. To correct it, use a **Word tool.** 12. The word should be repaired. Open the **Settings app** in Windows 10 and go to **Apps & Features.** Select **Microsoft Office** from the app list, then Modify, then **Repair Office Programs** from the options. 13. The word should be uninstalled and reinstalled. Your **Microsoft ID** and **Product Key** are required. Remove it fully by going to Windows Settings or downloading the **MS Office Uninstall Support Tool**. Drag it to the trash and reinstall it on a Mac.
