**Skype** has about 100 million active users and approximately 8 million paying subscribers as of 2011. The company moved the software from P2P networks to cloud-powered servers to take advantage of the integration of Windows Phone and mobile apps. Skype became problematic as a result of the change, with calls, messages, and notifications repeating on devices. Microsoft announced Teams in November 2016 as a replacement for Skype. Users of Skype were dissatisfied, so Zoom focused on their problems and provided high-quality voice and video chats. Pandemic increased demand for the app, resulting in higher sales and a higher stock price, paving the way for its success.
