**[‘Delhi’](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/62191/who-launched-a-digital-india-initiative-at-new-delhi) i**s the only [territory](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/40835/why-did-the-osage-move-onto-their-reservation-in-the-indian-territory) of the country which **has its own High Court** As we know that India has **8 [Union](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/1510/union-example-in-sql-server) territories**, not a single territory has its **own High Court except Delhi**. The High Court of Delhi was **established on 31 October 1966**, initially, when it was started it only had four judges, and the **Chief Justice** was also included in its name **was [k. S. Hegde](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._S._Hegde)**. The **56 years** have been passed since the establishment of the **High Court** and now it has **45 permanent judges** and **15 Additional Judges.** \

**History of [Delhi High Court](http://delhihighcourt.nic.in/)** **In 1882** the **High Court of Lahore** was established with the Jurisdiction of the **Provinces of the Punjab and Delhi**. This jurisdiction last till the **[partition of India](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/32988/who-is-responsible-for-partition-of-india-in-1947) happened in 1947.** And after the partition of India, the Punjab Court was also separated from the **Delhi Court a**nd set up in the eastern region of Punjab. In view of Delhi’s Population and density and in considering the others of Delhi, the parliament passed an Act called the **Delhi High Court Act 1966** and Established the High Court of Delhi which comes into **effect on 31 October 1966.** \
**Jurisdiction of the Delhi High Court** The Jurisdiction of the **Delhi High Court** was huge and it covers almost all the areas of Delhi including the area of the Gurgaon and the Punjab border. And it also states in the act that it will have the power to **overview the lower Courts** like **District and Magistrate Courts.** \
