In 1993, National Human Rights Commission as a statutory body, to act a the watchdog of human rights was established in India. It deals with the rights relating to life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individuals guaranteed by the constitution on or embodied in the international convenants, enforceable by courts in India. The President appoints the Chairman and members of NHRC. They hold the office for a term of 5 years or until they reach the age of age 70 years.
