Among all the Khayal Gayaki vocal styles Gwalior Gharana is the oldest one. In the mid 16th century it was founded. The founding artists are Ustad Hassu Khan, Ustad Haddu Khan, Ustad Nathu Khan. This style of singing is popular for its lucidity and simplicity. \

The famous exponents of this Gharana are Bal Krishna Balchal Karangikar, Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, Pandit Omkaranath Thakur, Malini Rajurkar and Veena Sahasrabuddhe.

**The Agra Gharana** imposes much significance on developing forcefulness and deepness in the voice that the notes are powerful and resonant. In the mid 19th century it was founded by Haji Sujan Khan and Ustad Ghagghe Khuda Baksh.
