**Atal Setu is a four-lane bridge of measuring 5.1 km long cable-stayed bridge**. It **connects state capital Panaji with north Goa.** It is the **third Cable bridge build across river Mandovi in Panaji,** Goa. To build the bridge worth 15 Thousand Crore Rupees have been sanctioned for the state of Goa. This four-lane bridge Atal Setu weighs about 2.5 lakh tonnes which is equivalent to the weight of 570 Boeing aircraft. \
Approximately 32,000 square meters of structural steel plates, 13,000 tonnes of corrosion resistant reinforcement steel, and 1,800 kilometers of high tensile pre-stressing strands have been used in the making of the bridge. The bridge has a **total of 88 high tension strong cables** in the state-of-art single place harp type cable stay system. The bridge was constructed by the **GIDC (Goa [Infrastructure](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/31667/which-country-is-to-host-3rd-annual-meeting-of-board-of-governors-of-asian-infrastructure-investment-bank) Development Corporation) along with the Engineering and Construction major [Larsen and Toubro](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/34689/who-is-the-owner-of-l-t-infotech).** \
It is the third bridge build over Mandovi River. **The foundation stone for this bridge was laid by [Narendra Modi](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/342/who-is-narendra-modi) the Prime Minister of India, on June 14, 2014.** The **bridge was named after the ex-Prime Minister of India Late [Atal Bihari Vajpayee](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/48363/what-are-some-amazing-facts-about-atal-bihari-vajpayee) as ‘Atal Setu’.** Atal Setu is **Goa's longest bridge and third longest cable-stayed bridge of India.** \
Later on, the Goa Infrastructure [Development](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/20399/indian-roads-color-change-within-a-day) Corporation (GSIDC) declared that the cable-stayed bridge is not allowed to be used for the two-wheeler and three-wheeler traffic due to the high speed of the wind. It is **expected that about 66,000 vehicles will cross the bridge route every day**.
