The Indian Institute of Science is also known as ‘IISc’. The institute **was founded in in the year 1909**. The institute **was founded by “Jamsetji Nussarwanji Tata”, the [Government](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/276/performance-of-government-in-the-center) of India, and the Maharaja of Mysore.** It is also **popularly known as “Tata Institute”**. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a Public [University](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/44767/how-can-i-apply-to-peking-university) in the field of Research and higher education in the field of Science, Engineering, Design, Management, and PhD Programmes as well. \
**To build the Institute, in the 19th century, Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, donated about 370 acres of land to build the college campus**.
