**A glass fiber may be a versatile, clear strand of terribly pure glass that acts as a lightweight pipe to transmit light between 2 ends of the fiber.** Optical fibers have a core enclosed by a protective cover layer made from the material. **The optical signals within the core area unit confined by establishing a ratio that's larger than the protective cover.**

[Light](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/332/artificial-intelligence-bane-or-boon) in a very fiber optic cable travels through a core by perpetually bouncing from the protective covering, a principle termed total internal reflection. **As the protective covering doesn't absorb any lightweight from the core, lightweight waves travel longer distances**. Fibers with a large core diameter are also analyzed by geometrical optics. These fibers are called multi-mode fiber. \
