For mobile devices with detachable batteries, a **soft reset simulates battery removal.** A soft reset is performed on phones with non-removable batteries, such as the new iPhone 8 Plus, by turning the phone off and then turning it back on after a few seconds. Essentially, it turns off your gadget and then **restarts it from scratch**. A soft reset can also be used to shut down a device that has become frozen or unresponsive. **This reset is considered safe** since it will not damage any of your personal data saved on your device. Soft resets are frequently used to address minor app issues. On your new iPhone 8 Plus, h**ere's how to make a soft reset (restart**):

1. For a few seconds, **hold down the Side (Power) button** until the Slide To Power slider displays.
2. Slide to totally **turn off your iPhone.**
3. **Hold down the Side (Power) button** for another **30 seconds** until the Apple logo shows.

In iOS 11, the **Settings menu** has been included as a new option for restarting your device.

- **Tap Settings** from the Home screen to **soft reset (restart) your iPhone 8 Plus** using the Settings menu. This will open the Settings application. Locate and **press the Shut Down option.** The iPhone will be turned off if you do so. In a nutshell, go to **Setting**s-> **Shut Down.**

This is a new feature in iOS 11 that wasn't present in earlier iOS devices.
