If you suspect your iPhone has been hacked or infected with malware, the **first step is to wipe it clean.** You may accomplish this by performing a factory reset. Before doing a factory reset, make sure you have backed up your images and movies to iTunes or iCloud. To factory reset your iPhone 8, follow the instructions below:

1. Open the **Settings application.**
2. **Select General.**
3. **Restart** by pressing the Reset button.
4. Erase All Content and Settings is the last option.
5. **Enter your passcode** if prompted.
6. **Erase your iPhone** by pressing the Erase button.

**Avoid visiting suspicious sites** You can **use a web browser on your iPhone** 8 to surf websites just as you can on a PC. If you are not cautious when visiting websites, malware or viruses may be put into your device. Some links on a website may be **booby-trapped, allowing viruses** to proliferate and take control of your device once you click on them. The same may be said for malware that operates through email. In general, only click on a link that comes from a reputable source. Avoid clicking on anything if the website or email link appears to be shady.
