In Internet lingo, a **default gateway** is a hardware node or point that provides outbound data packet access to a destination on another distinct network. \
The default simply indicates that unless an application specifies a different gateway, this gateway is utilized by default. The default server does not have to be a router; it might just be a PC with two network adapters, one linked to the local subnet and the other to the internet.
