- A **numeric keypad** is an extra set of keys to the right of a standard keyboard that includes numbers. Depending on your [**Mac**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/49842/what-is-macfuse), the keyboard, and the software you're running, the keypad operates in different ways. The numeric keypad is typically used to enter numbers, but it can also be used to move the pointer and, in some programmes, to navigate your page.
- Toggle the **Num Lock** switch on.
- The Num Lock key is situated on the numeric keypad if your keyboard has a separate numeric keypad. Try pressing Shift-Delete if your keyboard has a separate keypad but no Num Lock key.
- You may have activated Mouse Keys, which allows you to move the cursor with the numeric keypad, if the numeric keypad still doesn't work as expected.
- Choose **Apple menu > System Preferences,** select Accessibility, click Pointer Control, then click Alternate Control Methods to view the option that disables Mouse Keys.
