- Make a note of the location and name of the errant **ghost file.**
- Insert your installation CD into the CD/DVD ROM drive on your computer. [**Restart**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/50306/how-about-if-ios-12-won-t-restart-or-let-you-reboot) your computer and select the installation CD as your boot option. It's possible that you'll need to set your computer to boot from the CD/DVD ROM drive first.
- If you're using Windows 7 or Vista, go to 'Repair your computer.' If you're using Windows XP, press 'R' when the 'welcome to Setup' screen opens.
- Choose the Windows installation that includes the ghost file. If your machine is running Windows XP, you may additionally need to enter the administrator password.
- For Windows 7 or Vista PCs, choose 'Command Prompt.' If you're using Windows XP, the command prompt should appear automatically.
- In the command prompt, type 'cd [path],' where [path] is the location you noted in Step 1. Enter the code
- 'del [ghost file],' where [ghost file] is the name of the ghost file to be deleted. Restart your computer.
