**Wait a few moments.** Perhaps your Mac is just overworked as a result of all the open files and programmes that are operating in the background. It simply requires a **little more time to shut down** in this scenario. We recommend waiting up to 5 minutes for your Mac to shut down and exit any active processes. \
If certain programmes refuse to quit, your MacBook will not shut down. So, before you start looking for issues, ensure sure no **unresponsive programmes** are interfering with the shutdown process. \
Here's how to tell if an **app isn't responding:** \

1. The **Dock's app icons** are jumping about.
2. A dialogue window appears on your screen advising you to close a certain programme.
3. Some apps display a **notification window.**

To **resolve the issue of unresponsive applications**, follow these steps: \

1. **Right-click the app** and s**elect Quit** or Force Quit from the menu.
2. If it doesn't work**, select Force Quit** from the Apple menu.
3. If your Mac won't shut down after you've stopped the app, **click the Apple logo again > Shut Down**.
