- Data packets are forwarded from one network node to another as they move from source to destination in computer networking. However, in Ethernet [**networks**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/50533/how-to-fix-an-iphone-8-that-is-stuck-on-blank-or-black-screen), these packets (called frames in a literal sense because they pass at layer-2 of the OSI layer format within a LAN) may have many pathways to the next hop address.
- **Non-Designated Port:** A non-designated port is one that has been chosen because it has a greater port cost than a designated port. Non-designated ports will be listed as blocking ports, and no frames will be forwarded. Of course, if the network's topology changes, the same port could become a designated port.
