- A **Root Port** is a single port that has the cheapest path to the Root Bridge. From the [**switch**](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94843/why-do-my-phone-get-switched-off-automatically) to the Root Bridge, the Root Port on the Bridge (Switch) has the lowest Spanning Tree Path Cost.
- The root port provides a direct connection to the single root bridge, or the quickest way to the root bridge.
- If more than one connection links to the root bridge, the bandwidth of each link is used to compute the port cost.
- Other than the root switch, a single selected port on a switch.
- The shortest path from a non-root bridge to the root bridge.
- On a non-root switch, there is only one root port.
