According to the [**Defense Service Law,**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India%E2%80%93Israel_relations) the enlistment to the Israeli Defense Forces is mandatory for all Israeli residents who've become 18 (with the above-noted exemptions enshrined in the Defense Service Law). \

The regular period of obligatory national service is two years and eight months for men (with a few roles requiring an extra 4 months of service), and two years for women (with some roles that requiring a further 8 months of carrier). \
In 1949, after the founding of the State of Israel, the Defense Service Law gave the IDF the authority to enlist any citizen. Draftees would then be required to show up for the draft in accordance with the military's choice to enlist them. Under this law, the length of national service for men was 30 months and for women 18 months (even though according to a transient order from January 10, 1968.
