Shankar discusses his journey from a young wandering dancer to a **Grammy Award-winning**, a worldwide famous musician in his own words. The book is as much about living a musical life as it is about the art of music, and it is at once a riveting biography, a history of Indian classical music, and a handbook on how to play the **sitar.** It was **first published in 1968.**

A new prologue by **Philip Glass**, gorgeous, never-before-seen images and a new closing chapter detailing Shankar's wish for the preservation of Indian classical music are included in this edition.

Ravi Shankar, the famed sitarist and composer, is a one-of-a-kind phenomenon in both the East and the West's classical music realms. **Yehudi Menuhin, Jean Pierre Rampal, Phillip Glass, and George Harrison** have all commissioned him to write music for them. The **international award-winning musician** is a member of the **United Nations International Rostrum of Composers** and an honorary member of the **American Academy of Arts** and Letters.
