**The first National Cricket Academy was started in the year 1792, at [Calcutta](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/34034/the-bank-of-calcutta-bank-of-bombay-and-bank-of-madras-were-merged-in-1921-to-form) and being named as ‘Calcutta Cricket and [Football Club](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/47395/which-is-the-oldest-football-club-of-india)’. It is one of the oldest Sports Club in the world and popularly known as CC&FC. Many other games are also the part of this club apart from [Cricket](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/48333/which-is-the-highest-individual-score-in-world-cup-cricket) and Football.**

Due to the absence of permanent field for cricket players at the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club the player felt the need of permanent by the 1820s. Later, in the year 1825, a permanent ground was allotted for the cricket at the Eastern end of Eden Gardens and was used for the Cricket players. During the British rule, the Calcutta Football Club was the dominant club and had a great competitive rivalry with the Mohun Bagan Football Club especially. As well as, the Calcutta Football club won the ‘Calcutta Football League’ eight times and the IFA shield nine times. But after the [Independence](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/48892/what-is-the-main-role-of-c-rajagopalachari-in-india-s-independence), the British left the country as well as many Anglo-Indians migrated to [America](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/51168/what-were-the-different-responses-of-the-various-native-american-peoples-when-their-ancestral-lands-were-threatened) and [Australia](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/40184/what-is-the-national-tree-of-australia), due to which the Football team became weak and relegated in 1950. As a result, **the exclusive rights of the ground of the Mohun Bagan Club was shifted to Calcutta Cricket Club**. In the end, **in 1965, the Football Club merged with the Calcutta Cricket Club**, then the name of the club came out as the **‘Calcutta Cricket and Football Club’.**
