**In 1999, Anil Kumble became only the second [spinner](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/51903/what-is-a-fidget-spinner) in Test match history to take all ten wickets in a single inning.** On **February 7, 1999**. During the **second Test of the two-match series against [Pakistan](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/92992/what-are-the-causes-of-dispute-between-pakistan-and-india) at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi**, currently known as **Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium**, he achieved the feat. \
In the match, **India set Pakistan a 420-run total**, and the visitors got off to a good start with openers **Shahid Afridi** and **Saeed Anwar** putting on **101 runs** for the first wicket.\

Kumble entered the attack and wreaked havoc on **Pakistan's batting line-up**. In the **25th over**, the spinner, also known as **'Jumbo,'** removed Afridi. \

India proceeded to take wickets through Kumble after dismissing the right-handed batter, and Pakistan was reduced to 128/6 in no time. Kumble then continued to take wickets at regular intervals, eventually removing **Wasim Akram in the 61st over for his tenth wicket**. \
With this performance, I**ndia won by 212 runs**, and **Kumble joined [England](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/47441/which-was-the-first-ever-cycling-club-of-england)'s Jim Laker as the first bowler to take all ten wickets in a single Test inning. Kumble bowled 10/74 in 26.3 overs to finish with stats of 10/74.** \
In **2008**, **Kumble**, a cricket icon, **announced his retirement from international cricket**. In the longest format of the game, **he finished with 619 wickets.**\

He has the **third-highest amount of Test wickets (619)**, trailing only **Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka (800)** and **Shane Warne of Australia (708)**.
